holophon.ca presents:
2009 winners of the JTTP competition
June 22nd 2010, The Crushed Grape, Regina
Concert Program and Wine Pairings
Olivier Girouard — Suite_04 (2009 / 18:47) Canadian Winner
Wine Pairing: Selbach Oster Riesling
Flowery and tart, bursting with fruit, but with an acid balance that tames the upfront sweetness. An immediate flavour punch that mellows out as an aftertaste.
Yota Kobayashi — Kakusei (2009 / 12:05) Canadian runner-up
Wine Pairing: Pies Porter Riesling
This Riesling is syrupy, sugary, with a flavor balanced between pear and melon, silky feel and aftertaste.
Christopher Mclean — Bébelles (2009 / 8:21) Canadian Second runner-up
Wine Pairing: Sonora Ranch Sauvignon Blanc
A crisp, bold white that is grassy, airy, and the sensation is that of evaporation on your tongue. Very refreshing.
Florian Hartlieb — Im vorderen Zimmer des hinteren Raums (2009 / 12:16) German Winner
Wine Pairing: Nk'Mip Yeats Chardonnay 2007
This Chardonnay arrests you with its strong, oaky fragrance, but its taste is mellow and delicate. Granny Smith apple is the main flavour.
Oliver Peters — Transkript 18 (2009 / 19:26) German runner-up
Wine Pairing: Henry of Pulham - Baco Noir
A very light red with moderated sweetness, a weaving of flavours such as plum, cassis, clove, tobacco, it's difficult to describe about as anything other than a wide variety of interwoven flavours. The wine begins smooth but has a tangy aftertaste - finishing the program with a bang.
Wine pairings coordinated by JD Zaremba, chef/sommelier of Crushed Grape Wine Bar, Regina SK. Event organized and hosted by Erin Gee and Jeff Morton for holophon.ca, graphic design by JG Hampton 2010
